Planning for Equitable Development

We have long been engaged in trying to ensure that city development projects and programs provide for equitable results.  We are currently working to build a coalition to help frame Comprehensive Plan Amendments and policies that include strategies for enabling current residents to avoid being displaced by redevelopment pressures, increasing the amount of affordable housing and fostering wealth development by lower-income DC residents.  The policies go beyond land and economic development issues and include initiatives related to increasing health and well-being, especially in the neighborhoods located east of the Anacostia River.

Soul of the City

This is a business plan and organization plan for managing and enhancing the Congress Heights commercial district in DC.  It was developed in advance of the opening of a new sports arena located on the St. Elizabeths East Campus near, adjacent to the Congress Heights Metro station.  The Plan is intended to capture the benefits of this and other new projects for the neighborhood and the residents.  It was the result of a collaborative planning process led by the Congress Heights Community Training and Development Corporation, which engaged residents, businesses, developers, government leaders, non-profit organizations, and civic groups, and has resulted in the creation of the Congress Heights Partnership, representing these diverse stakeholders working together for the preservation and development of the greater neighborhood.
